Diabetes Program

Cancer and Pre- and Post-Surgical Care

We support you in optimizing your nutrition before surgery to promote faster recovery, lower the risk of complications, shorten hospital stays, and enhance overall strength. During and after surgery and cancer treatment, we also provide guidance to help manage side effects, such as reduced appetite, unintended weight loss, taste changes, and nausea, while maintaining your strength and nutritional well-being.

Kidney Disease

We provide individualized nutrition plans for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and dialysis, including protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluid management when appropriate. Our goal is to provide a practical, sustainable plan that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

Women’s Health

Women’s nutritional needs change throughout different life stages. From menstruation to pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause, hormonal shifts can significantly impact metabolism, energy levels, body composition, and long-term health risks. We support pregnancy, lactation and postpartum nutrition, menopause and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Our program also provides nutrition tips to support infants, children, and adolescents, including picky eating, growth concerns, food allergies, and establishing healthy eating habits.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

A referral from your physician or nurse practitioner is required. Please check with your primary care provider.

  • Is there a cost to see a dietitian?

Dietitian services within the Family Health Team are typically covered for enrolled patients. Please confirm with us for details.

  • How long is an appointment?

Initial appointments are usually 45–60 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically 20–45 minutes, depending on your needs.

  • How many visits will I need?

Patients can receive a maximum of 3 sessions per referral. This depends on your health goals and medical condition; some individuals benefit from 1–3 visits, while others may require ongoing support. After 3 sessions are done, you will need to visit doctor or NP again to discuss if another referral is needed.

  • Do you provide meal plans?

We focus on individualized guidance rather than rigid meal plans. We prioritize building skills so you can make confident food choices independently.

  • Can you help if I have multiple medical conditions?

Absolutely! We specialize in tailoring nutrition recommendations to complex medical needs.

  • Is nutrition counselling only for people with medical conditions?

Not at all - we also support general healthy eating, prevention, and wellness at any life stage. If you have any questions related to nutrition, you can always seek help from a registered dietitian.
